Oil Filter/cartridge type

I have seen a couple of A7/10's fitted with a catridge oil filter, whilst it's probably too late to save any damage to my motor it seems a good idea. I was impressed with the recent one shown on these pages fitted inside the tool box.
Is there a suitable "off the shelf" housing available for the job or are people adapting old car units ?

The filter cartidges are Citroen 2CV (black), a chromed Harley version is available as well.

The ones from Goffy which Markus recommended look really good and come with all the pipework. I am going to order one and fit it when I next change the oil. Goffy's website is well worth a visit. Some useful bits and the stories from Goffy about his biking experiences are well worth a read.

Got'em on both of mine. Takes the same filter as Dupussi, kidneys for your bike.

Just to prove that there is another location - I wanted mine in the air flow (high oil temp. RGS engine) so have mounted it tucked up under the gearbox infront of the centre stand pivot, facing forwards (not downwards). There's loads of ground clearance to do this and I still have room for the voltage regulator, fuse box, indicator flasher unit and a bag of 'get me home' tools in the tool box and it's also out of sight.

Hi There is an alternative which is more expensive but is easier to place. I have only seen it advertised in the STAR BSA owners mag. Its available from BlightB6@aol.com around £50 it uses the slimline Norton cartridges. Pic below on someone else's bike I saw at VMCC rally. I will be using one of these but not ready yet. I don't know the seller. Its called a Hide-Di-Hi.

Speaking of alternatives:

I've one of these on the A7, mounted between the rear g'box plates (under the ski-slope cover).

Very neat kit, even when mounted visibly it doesn't look out of place on an old bike. It uses a BSA A75/ TRI T150/T160 filter element. Also available in chrome btw.

Only downside is it hasn't got a bypass valve, so periodical changes are advisable.
Not a huge problem when fitted to the return line though and the transparent flexible tube, although looking a bit like a garden hose, allows you to check the returning flow at a glance.

You pay a good price for filters down there - very general price at Halfords (not the cheapest always) is around 7 to 9 pounds UK

There's another filtration system suitable for our bikes.
I've fitted a hi-de-hide filter on my plunger, and pleased with its performance. There will be pictures of it fitted to the frame between the plunger and seat somewhere on the forum. Extra length of tubing and the filter body seem to keep the oil cool, as well.

By pure accident I found a shorter filter with the same characteristic as those above ( low flow resistance), helps if locating elsewhere and height is an issue.
it's a UFI 23 149 00  also Benelli and Motoguzzi printed on the box

I also have fitted a Hi Di Hi filter. It is a good piece of kit, and (to my eyes at least) it even looks as if it could have been factory fitted by BSA.
