Push rods
« on: 03.08. 2010 15:35 »
I think I smoked an entire pack of cigarettes trying to get them in yesterday.  The Haynes manual mentions a BSA Pushrod Tool.  Anyone have it/ seen it/ know anything about it?

I did get the rods in, by the way.  Just curious about this tool incase I ever need to remove the rocker again.

you could make one up out of cardboard in a few minutes , it wouldn't last long but would do.

Did you slacken the tappet adjusters right back so your not fighting against the valve springs? I believe that is half the battle in getting the rocker box cover back on correctly with push rods in place. *smiley4*

I made a comb out of thin ally, but couldn't find it the last time I needed it, so I used one of those magnetic screw retrievers to position the pushrods prior to trapping them in the rockers one at a time. Had the rocker box raised about ten mil.
I could just get a finger in to finally check all four were located, but cranked the engine very slowly for the first turn just in case I had mis-placed one.

Genius.  I'll be buying one.  I'll trace it out and post it on here as soon as I get it.

Use the search facility on this forum .
We have gone through this a dozen or more times.
There are a lot of ways to get them in
