Oh it has a V5c - says unlicensed , also does Not say "non transferable", might go your way though and just get it taxed as is if possible and then see, OTOH could be worth a phone call just to get DVLAs slant on it

To change the taxation status from unlicensed to Historic you will need to visit your nearest licensing office with your MOT certificate, V5, and insurance certificate, or alternatively post it the nearest office. You cannot do this at the post office counter. You will be issued with a tax disc while you wait or by return of post if you choose that option. If the frame number does not agree with the V5 number as was the case with my bike the DVLA will contact you and request a rubbing of the number from the frame. I was then issued with an amended V5.

Hi,   

after the GA7 the next number should be a 1 or 2  for 1961 A10s.

If the 1 was stamped leaning a bit it could look like a bit like a  7.

Just a thought.    Do you have a picture?

I had similar problems with a Bantam I am restoring.  It had the wrong number on the V5C (a number 6 was a G on the log book) and was also on a Q plate.  I contacted a chap called Mike Worhington-Williams and for a fee of £25 pounds, a photo of the bike, a letter from my MOT tester (who just had a quick look at the pre-restored bike) and a rubbing of the frame and engine numbers he not only got the V5C changed but recovered the original registration number.  I sent him the details and the old V5C together with the rubbings and a photo and got a form back to sign and he sorted the rest.

Well worth the £25.

Hi bsa - Bill,

I have checked the number again and mine is stamped on the right hand side of the head stock starting at the bottom which is obviously the wrong place, I will try to contact DVLC and see if they can find any history from the reg number.

My major concern is that I won't be able to regester the bike as a 1961 Golden Flash once I have finished retoring the machine?

Might have been a replacement frame at some time stamped by a dealer.
Maybe check with the VMCC who have factory records of bikes sold ( I think I'm right in that it is the VMCC ), they mightbe able to get some info from the engine number, worth an ask

          The wrap around gusset on your head stock. Is it a full width or half width one?

Hi Dave,

Great idea, my bike was last on the road in 1977 so has no V5 or V11,

I will check with DVLA tomorrow to make sure the reg number is still available,

              The half width gusset makes the frame earlier than 1961.
The full width version was introduced in early 1960.
