Primary Case Felt Gasket
« on: 24.08. 2010 14:02 »
The seemingly endless task of doing up the A10 continues... I'm now looking to refit the primary rear, complete with front section of the dreaded FERC !!
I've looked everywhere (articles, haynes, etc..) but can't find any reference to fitting the felt gasket that lives behind the slider. The question is do I just fit it, add grease or any other sealant to it... Nothing I've read ever mentions replacing it but I have a nice new one.....

Thanks,

Adrian

The felt washer just goes behind the sliding plate Adrian, there's a sort of circular recess, nothing more to it

I always put some grease on it as i think that it helps it to seal. The main thing is to get it centralised, so dont tighten the two bolts fully until the clutch is in place.

Thanks Bill & Goldy,
I'll try a little grease (the previous owner loved the stuff!!) just to keep it in place.. I won't have the luxury of tightening the  bolts up after the clutch is fitted (the FERC is a fercing nightmare to remove and replace as it almost surrounds the gearbox sprocket and the nuts are on the back, out of reach!) so I'll just have to get them tight enough for the plate to still slide & hope for the best..

Cheers,
Adrian

Adrian the bolts that hold the sliding plate on are a shouldered bolt, when tight the plate should still be able to move
