what kind of reading should I be getting on a 1962 super rocket [stock motor] on the compression guage ?

In general terms the reading should be between 120 up to 160 lbs, unless you are running 10.5 to 1 or somthing as exotic :o, the most important thing being the cylinders should be within a few pounds of each other, if not, then time to investigate why not.
If you are getting 100 lb or  less, time for a rebuild!

this is a stock motor no hc pistons or anything ......been sitting for a long time just checking things over as the rings were stuck in the barrel

G'day Sean, ditto what Alf said. If the rings were stuck in the bore I'd at least throw new rings in and if there is any etching in the bore a rebore next size up with new pistons & rings.
