« on: 16.10. 2010 17:39 »
have a 1963 motor ,stock and unmolested. it is a HHC DA10R 99XX. I see it will fit RGS or SR. Is there a way to tell which it belongs to ?

also have a gearbox stamped STB  no STB2 or STD...it Says STB

G'day HP,
the only real way to tell is to check with BSAOC despatch records.
My Bacon restoration book says '63 DA10R-8197 onwards for SR, Spitfire and RGS. The last RGS was 10388.
Cheers

The DA10R engine was never fitted to the Spitfire, only DA10SR engines. Bacon's listings are sometimes off a bit.

If you post the full engine number, I can advise if it's an RGS engine. (I have the RGS despatch record.) You can PM me if you wish.

Have you searched the forum for gearbox ID info?

I have done some searching, DA10R shows up as fitting 3 models SR RGS and Spitfire,( info said Spitfire could be DA10R or DA10SR that either was valid ) ,The only mention I find of the STB gear box is in regards to the 63 Spitfire. The motor came from New Jersey and thought maybe it was one of the Nutley bikes.

The DA10R 99XX in your PM does not appear in the RGS despatch record.

Contrary to my previous posting, Spitfires were fitted with the DA10R engine on and after 12 Oct 61; DA10R 82XX was the highest number listed in the GA7A Spitfire despatch record.

I regret the error.

HI Humble Pie,
Welcome to the forum!!!
Just to confirm the only difference between the RGS and SR motors is the serial numbers of the ones fitted to the RGS frames *ex*
The engine specification is identical !

Check the ratios of the gearbox.
You will probably find that it is the STD2/STB2 box.
This box seems to have been fitted to U.S. market Super Rockets.

That was back then when Lemmy's voice was somewhat intact and usable for singing, right?   *lol*
