SRM Sump Filter Kit

I am considering purchasing a SRM Sump Filter Kit to make draining the sump on my RGS replica quicker and no gasket etc issues. The one concern I have is removing the existing 4 studs to use the supplied bolts. Would not want any of them to shear off when trying to remove them out of the crankcase. Could the existing nuts and bolts be used to fit the SRM kt rather than havin to remove them? Appreciate feedback and advice from anyone who has already done this.

G'day SteveM, welcome to the forum.
                                                          Short answer is yes. I have them fitted to both of mine. I use the extended tappet inspection cover nuts as there isn't enough room to get a socket onto normal nuts. (I'm not normal)

Hi Steve,

I bought a similar kit last year and had the same concerns about taking out the old studs but in the end they came out very easily. The SRM kit comes complete with longer screws to secure the plate as the extra thickness of the alloy plate might make your studs too short. They are a useful addition to any bike which does not get ridden often.

I managed to put 2 slim nuts onto each stud then lock them together to undo them, they came out easy i suppose its well lubricated down there

When you fit an a bigger sump with drain plug, pick one that has the brain bolt in the side not the bottom .
Now fit it so that the bolt points to the left.
Two reasons for this.
1) should you forget to replace it or not do it up tight enough the the oil will pour out to the left not directly onto the contact patch of your rear tyre.
2) when you finish a ride you can drop the bike onto the side stand & drain the sump compeletly.
If that means that the finning runs across the motor it dose not matter, the oil will never know.
