triumph clutch

 I would like to replace the outer bearing race on my triumph clutch chain wheel, but so far haven't found any for sale.Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers. ????

Why do you need to change it?

I've never seen them for sale seperately, I've seen them fall on the floor when they have come loose though.

A complete new chainwheel only cost about 30 quid.

 I have two one looks new but a bit rusty,I guess I could clean it up (might have to) and one a bit chipped but not on the face, Just thought I could fit a new outer race.I will let you know how I get on, thanks for the reply Cheers.

You could try TMS in Nottingham.  I have found them very useful and the chap has an incredible ability to remember BSA  & Triumph part numbers.

Thanks Zitman, tried Tms they say race is not available as a spare part.I feel they must be available but not in this field,Ill have to try looking elsewhere.cheers.

Ask for part number 65-3912 (Ball Race Ring) ....but it might only be available as a complete bearing.

I'm confused - which clutch do you have, is it the triumph 4 spring?

Bill, I'm confused as well. If it's like my 4 spring Triumph clutch it has 20 individual rollers which run between a hardened ring on the clutch basket and a hardened surface on the adaptor which sits on the mainshaft taper. Clarification needed or a photo.
I have a suspicion you may be after the outer hardened ring on the clutch basket.

Sorry.....I've posted the details for the 6 spring clutch because I've mis-read the parts book.  Can somebody direct me to my nearest "Specsavers" please.

On checking again, the parts book for 1960 models showing the Triumph type clutch doesn't have a separate part number for the item in question.  However, the parts book for the Alternator B31 and B33 models shows the Triumph type clutch with the 20 individual rollers and has part number 42-3177 for the clutch housing bearing ring (the hardened ring that presses into the clutch basket).  This is the part that presses into the chainwheel and takes the 20 roller bearings.  I believe it to be the same part that Sinbad wants.

So Sinbad....if this is the part you need, try asking for part number 42-3177.  Some dealers might stock it.

Again Guys, sorry for the confusion but I hope that this helps to sort it out!!

Ah I see, didn't know you could get that bit by itself, I think I would just get the whole thing if there was any wear on the teeth at all

Anyway as an aside I did see somewhere the other day oversize rollers, must have been on line as I haven't been out for a while, having said that I have never seen any wear on those rollers in my somewhat limited experience of clutch's seen

Thanks Guys, the clutch I have is 4 spring triumph as Alanp said it is the outer race I want  42-3177 as Beezageezauk  said. This part number is listed on the Cush drive chain-wheel ie (the machined type clutch-cage) its not listed on the pressed steel type clutch-cage.Ill try with this part no Cheers.
