Guess I might be the only one who has never heard of 'Gem mounts'. Trev seemed to understand. Someone put me out of my misery please.

yes typo ,, :)

ok well I cut off part of the sleeve on top ( the one side has sleeves ) and that allowed the to top to fit in.  but the bottom will not close and more due to the engine bosses. :(

This is that odd 54/55 frame   could the top lugs be what is causing my problem ?

I had a similar problem with mine.Found the were slightly twisted and bent a real so-en-so to do , I settled for a slight gap all the way round.

There should be a spacer between the each plate and the lugs on the frame,  or have you just left them out for the photo

spacers not in but that is as far as I can get bottom to close but the boss on the motor is to wide  :!

Cut the inside sleeve on the right side bracket ( took of about 3/8 and it fits fine ) need to do a lil filing in the 1/2 for a better fit ,,bot that as far as the bottom will close,,may machine a lil off the motor case so it sets right,,almost seem the mounts should be different ,,jusr don't really know. and cannot find of 54 55 part #

Part numbers in 1954/55 are 42-4277 & 42-4283.
Part numbers in 1960/63 are 42-4277 & 42-4283.
As per parts books.

From memory the sleeves are both on one side (correct me if I'm wrong chaps) are yours like this?.

Can't think why the boss would be too wide - a disrespectful suggestion (but non intended) would be to check you have the rear engine plates correct and not throwing the lump off line.

I'm thinking these mounts may be bent,,also teh top lugs seem awful far inboard

The conclusion I came to with mine is they needed some serious heat like oxy/acetylene to get them any better ,Looking at the digram the top and bottom lug should be at right angles to the side of the plate and parallel to the top and front of the plate. Hope you manage to get them somewhere close.Cheers.
