Whether it's original or not, it's an easy enough conversion from another make.They all use the same flange mount.Is it an alternator model?

Gave them to a mate who is into to the evil stepsister by marriage ( Triumphs ) .

Hi!

It?s most likely the remains of a BSA A10GE from 1963. Very rare and the last A10 ever produced ( See page 125 of Mick Walker?s 'BSA Pre-unit twins - the complete story').

Anybody got a GE engine or a similar distributor they want to sell? I also need an alternator chain case rear part number 42-7528. I have the crank and chain case front already.

 I know in 69 Harley  had that code on there Servi-cars ,,it was for Alternator models ( they actually used a GM car alternator )

Hi Guys
     The passage in my book lists the model as a A10GF.  It goes on to say that they were produced in small numbers at the end of the line.  The alternator electrics and coil ignition were used because Lucas wasn't making magnetos.  How long did Norton use the mag on there twins?  I always thought it was into the mid 60's.  I could be wrong.  Roy Bacons BSA Twin Resto book lists an A10(alt) from 1961-1963 and had a prefix of DA10A.  No specific pictures in the book.  I would like to see one in the metal.

Norton used the K2F magneto until 1966.

  Interesting, did Lucas cut off BSA in 63???  Or miss information in the A10 info?  I was under the impression the alternator bikes were made along side the mag bikes and used for police and military use?

          I think the alternator A7 & A10s were made, as you surmised, primarily for police work as the generator alone could not supply enough power to run the radio and other bits and pieces fitted to cop bikes.

All the police specials I have seen had a maggy.
Some also had a dynamo.

As Trevor suggests, I too understood that the Alternator was an extra rather than an alternative

But I think a distribute is a bit rare, if it was for 1963 could it just be a case of a cost saving over purchase of a small number of Maggies as opposed to larger numbers of coil systems and alternators from Lucas for A50/65s
