Plunger QD Axle
« on: 09.01. 2011 14:08 »
Ok,,trying to get a rear wheel on this bike. I see it is a QD   Though it has a 1 piece axle. My 55 SA I noticed to a smaller OD axle than my 63 , will the 52 be using that still smaller axle ?  also what do I need to look for in a QD hub to make sure I have the proper bearings to run the smaller axle ?

Thanks

Baring in mind im building a bitza so I'm not 100% certain what parts I've got, I am fitting a plunger rear wheel to my rigid frame. The spindle is 7/8" diameter then steps down in size (cant remember without going into the garage) where it passes through the stub axle (stub axle OD is 7/8" also)

Funnily enough I picked up a spindle from Newark A/J only this morning.

The plunger QD set up is similar to the '55 but the stub axle is a larger diameter because the plunger uses a larger bearing in the brake drum.
The plunger hub is slightly different to the swinging arm type as it has a different bearing cover which screws on rather than pushes on as per swinging arm type.
