Siamese Pipes too long ?
« on: 31.01. 2011 19:09 »

I have just taken delivery of a set of Siamese pipes and Goldy style silencer. The pipes fit together well and seem to fit nicely around the head and timing cover.  However, I am not too sure how far they should stand out from the frame as there is no forward mounting bracket on the down pipe? The rear of the pipes seems to be a bit long and consequently, the silencer sticks out way too far, the silencer mounting is a long way back from the frame/footrest bracket. On the pipes is stamped B68 apart form this, I can?t see who made them. Can anyone please advise or perhaps post some pictures for me.

Thanks

Nigel

Nigel,
Send them back and get your money back!
Without the front frame bracket you will be forever pushing the damned things back into the head.
I had a set of pattern pipes years ago which had no front bracket and they were no end of trouble.
I finally had a bracket welded on and the pipes rechromed which fixed the problem.
I guess you don't want to mess up your nice shiny set of pipes with weld burns.

Hello Bob, Trev,

Thanks for the replies guys - no sooner asked than replied to!

Bob, super picture and a great help.

Trev, very good point about the front bracket, would be a shame to send them back as they fit well and were not too expensive. I would have thought that the angle and curvature of the pipes would tend to keep them in the cylinder head once the front pipes are clamped together??

Thanks Nigel

hi nigel, another pic of the where the front bracket is situated, i do think that you would need support in that area. would the stamp refer to 68 A65?cheers

hi Adrian, this is the same post as posted for nigel some time ago. I got mine from Ebay uk, the seller for the siamese pipes was:- builderboy01. He has an email add of:- (johnpressland@hotmail.co.uk).   the other for the silencer was "Classic Bike Shop England" on Ebay who trade under the name:-bsa111, they also have an e-mail add of:- (kbrind@blueyonder.co.uk)
I was very impressed with the goods and would recomend them, hope this helps, cheers

I got mine from another ebay seller - jrpclassics - who I think is builderboy's son. They fit very well although I had to take 1/4" off the end of the left hand pipe as it was too close to the down tube - also it was slightly out of round but easily fixed. The silencer was also from the same sourfce and as you will see lines up nicely.

Many thanks Bob & Ian..
I know both BSA111 and jrpclassics having bought smaller parts from them on Ebay in the past.. BSA111 is based in Wales I think & sometimes goes to the Shepton jumble - maybe I can persuade him to bring a set along for me to look at in March!

Cheers,
