Collected my engine today, along with a box full of scrap that came out of it.
Included in the box of scrap was:
pair of conrods, one had been welded up and they had spacers made up to enable the large journal rods to fit the small journal crank. The shells fitted had no oil holes in them!
A clapped out crankshaft and timing bush.
Pair of pistons which prob came out of an Indian car with handcut skirts to clear the crank webbing.
Mashed up wormdrive and gear from the oil pump.
Some wierd spring that was in place of the cork ring on the breather.
Various bits of broken metal found in the sump.
The chap who rebuilt it was surprised it lasted as long as it did without exploding.
So now I should have a half decent engine, Crank was reground all -20, new shells and timing bush line bored and new driveside bearing,also shimmed to correct endfloat New +20 JP pistons and rings. Cases were vapour blasted (came up nice) Really good job on 2 broken cylinder fins (cylinders shotblasted and repainted) Several threads repaired. New oilpump gears.
Just got to put it back in the frame and fit the head and rockerbox. Looking forward to getting it running, I think I should notice a marked improvement!
