Removing rust out of petrol tank
« on: 07.02. 2011 16:08 »
http://www.altelco.net/~jacil/clay/motorcycle/KElecSetup.html I am sure someone else has tried this I am at present removing rust out of an oil tank and the process is unbelievable ,please give it a try it works wonders on removing rust. You have to stick with it for a few day and change the electrolite every session but the results are spectacular it leaves the inside of the tank as if its been shotblasted. Thanks to Ken by the way.Alan

This sounds very interesting.  I recently had a nasty petrol-tank cleaning problem (after many years standing half full).  There were deposits that looked like rust but were something else, I think (but that is another story).  I think I will try your method as I am still not sure its all clear and there is still a bit of rust in there.

I see the pos. and Neg are connected to a battery, could you conect it to a trickle charger ? or any other 12v supply

G'day Alan,
Just tried the tank cleaning, worked a treat!, about 3 days as mentioned.
I had trouble getting Sodium Carbonate, so used Sodium Bicarbonate, which is
easier to get & cheaper, you have to heat it in the oven at 400 F, for an hour
& it turns into Sodium Carbonate,
