Refitting Exhaust Downpipes - 1962 A10
« on: 30.03. 2011 18:07 »
Dear All,
Finally I'm reaching the last stages (hopefully) of the never-ending A10 gearbox & clutch job.. As it's a year ago now since dismantling started I have of course forgotten more than a few minor details. Add to that the fact that there's no guarantee what came off was actually correct...

Anyway, it's time to put the downpipes back. The stud that goes through the frame is a bit chewed at one end but I'm making do for the time being.. Probably as a result of the chewed thread there were two nuts on this side, one on the other. Then there's a single but different sized washer on each side..

I've tried looking at the Draganfly parts book but it's not helpful, neither is Haynes which barely mentions there is an exhaust system at all!!
Can anyone help with the correct fixing order from the frame outwards, ie is it washer, pipe bracket, nut or nut, bracket, washer nut or a different combination of these items?

Many thanks,

Adrian.

Hi Adrian
My I suggest that you temporary fit the down pipes and silencers then see if you need to put packer/washers between down pipe bracket and frame.

I was able to drive the long frame bolt in and out adding washers.

Will take photo tomorrow.

Yes, its bracket - washer - nut, there is no nut inside the bracket. Unless you have some dodgy armholes downpipes then it could be anything.

Many thanks to Bill, Nick & Andy...

As Nick suggests I'll try a rough lining up and pack as required. I don't know the history of the pipes, the silencers aren't correct for the year & it looks as if the whole lot has been "persuaded" to fit..
In the longer term I'm looking for a siamese system & goldie pipe. Won't come from *rmours though, you should have seen what we had to do with a milling machine  to get the bracket on my Viper downpipe roughly right & they didn't even get the diameter at the head end right!

Thanks again,
Adrian
