Avon roadrider tyres

Im thinking of getting rid of the Dunlop tt100 that have been on my A10 for several years and have started to go hard as i have been living abroad for 6 years.

In 2 weeks time i return to the UK and entered in the 1000 bikes at Mallory a few weeks later. I want to change both tyres and although im quite happy with the Dunlops when new.

Avon roadrider are similar in price but looking at other posts they seem a lower profile, has anyone got any figures on the differences in diameter? Feedback on sizes and pressures appreciated. I run 19" rims

just a word on avon  roadriders on an A10 - excellent! may not have the vintage look - but sure do make a firm foot print on less than idea pavement and on good roads are inspiring  -  i even over took an elderly gentleman on his Schwinn a little earlier today!

This 1000 bikes at Mallory sounds interesting.
My guess its a parade of some sort?
Otherwise if you were planning on giving it some stick one of the venoms might be more fun.
You do have a fair array of bikes to choose from.

Must agree with Mike & Muskrat, they're excellent tyres. Have them on the Laverda & the rear of the A10 (plus one for the front, ready to fit soon!). Also have a pair waiting to go on the B33 when I get time..

I don't think you get the mileage from them as you used to from the AM20/21 Super Venom type but you can't fault them for grip.. The profile is lower though as I have the 90/90 19 leaning against the B33 rear wheel with SM MkII fitted and it looks like a smaller diameter!!

not sure about the availability of the venoms in the UK but here in the states Avon claims to have discontuinued their production - use to run super v's on my norton, have now gone to roadriders and they seems actually very similar in overall "feel" -  not sure about mileage out of them as i usually change tires every 2 years regardless of mileage to avoid them hardening

100/90 rear is the nearest size to 3.50in  (100mm x 90% =90mm = 3 5/8in. approx)

The 90/90 is the size for the front wheel (3.25in.)  90mm x 90% = 81mm = 3 1/4in. approx

As for pressures I am running 30/32 psi in the front and 28/30 in the rear
(this is kinda my own prefference  )

higher pressure in the rear for 2 up !!

Thanks to all, Trickytree linked his answer into Avon tech spec and i have found out that 3.25x19 is 17mm greater in diameter than the 90/90 x19 which sounds quite a lot.There is no mention on the site to a 100/90 x19 so i cant give details there. I assume that that size tyre is still available in the UK? subject to available stock i think i will give the Avons ago

Hi John,
yes, you're right.. It's just the 90/90 front one is leaning against the wheel at present. I use 100/90 for the rear (that's leaning against the garage wall farther along!). Did think of 110/90 for the rear but decided against it..

Availability for both sizes is good here in the UK, either from traditional classic bike suppliers or large car ones (I ordered my Laverda tyres via the local branch of ProTyre).
