The Candy Apple Red was 2 coats of red lacquer over a gold base over a black undercoat.
So the go is to keep applying the red until you are happy with the depth & strength of the colour as you would do with air brushing & shadowing.
Having said that some got the red sprayed over the silver base which was supposed to be used only on the blue bikes and the silver was supposed to be over a cream or white undercoat.
The logic was that by adding more layers of the same colour different colours could be obtained using the same standard premixed coloured lacquers.
Good idea in the boadroom, bad idea on the shop floor.
Even worse was the paint was not particularly colour fast and bikes would fade while waiting to be shipped, on display in the shop window, etc etc.
So no you will not be able to get a one pack colour mach for any of the late model "metallic" colours.

G'day Trevor,
Fully understand the Candy Apple process, I didn't want the candy apple look,
just a close metalic base with 2 pack clear cover, I've seen some late model
Subaru's that are pretty close to the colour.

Strange but all attempts I've had to get a nice metallic red failed, always too dark.
Even the present RGF project is a bit darker than I wanted but is the closest I got looking through the painters cards and he had hundreds of them.

Well it's all finished and I'm happy with the result. It's been just on 2 years since I purchased the rolling basket case. Another one saved! Hopefully I can attach some pictures.

I have ridden it around the block a couple of times and all seems well so far. It is pinging a bit and I am fiddling with mixture of the TT carby to get it right and will need to recheck the timing. Once I get it on club reg and am able to give it a good run, I should be able to sort it out.
