If you mean the banjo bolt it,s 5/16 cycle, but it would be better just to replace the rocker spindle.

That would be brilliant Musky,

It is the one for the inlet, how much do you want for one, and can it be done in situ?

Cheers,
Dave.

G'day Musky,

I have to admit both stupidity and ignorance in relation to the rocker feed bolt.  Turns out the spindle was loose and turning in the rocker box when all I needed to do was to put a spanner on the nut on the other side of the box and tighten it up  *red*.  It gave me an opportunity to clean up all the mating surfaces and put some sealant on the gaskets between the rocker box and head.

Just need to fix a minor weep on the inner timing cover and the relief valve while I am waiting for the gearbox oil seal.  Always going to be a few niggles with a new motor and more than a tad of embarrasment but I will hide behind my low level (but steadily growing) knowledge of these machines.

P.S, I will post that spindle back to you shortly Musky!  *beer*

Cheers,
Hubie.

Always the flippin' scroll on the clutch centre that leaks out the back of the inner chaincase!  I'm gonna try some grease and see what happens, otherwise I will need to get a new seal or come up with a new solution!

At least that is the last thing to do.  Nothing else is leaking now, not even weeping so I'm gonna ride anyway!

Not usually shown in the parts book is the felt "shaft protector" fitted to the main behind the primary.
It dose what all felt dose in the presence of oil ,,, slurp.
Eventually it will get saturated but it dose take a long while.

Got a part number there mate?  Would be real helpful.  I take it you mean a felt seal that goes over eithe the mainshaft or the back of the clutch centre?

Hi Hubie,
How much oil have you in the primary case?
There are different amount shown in various books (mostly too much!!??)
Is yours the earlier type which uses one of the case screws as a level?
Just enough oil(ATF) to cover the bottom chain run is fine

When I built my SR I had a lot of problems with oil leaks from the primary, the new felt ring on the sliding plate was acting as a wick sucking (soaking) the oil up and then draining it out when the bike was stationary????
Eventually I replaced the felt with a cork gasket *idea*
I fitted a quad ring between the sliding plate and clutch adptor making a new centre for the plate
The case then needed a breather hole invthe filler cap, been fine for 10 years *smile*

Hi John,

I always just use enough to have the bottom of the chain sitting in the oil/ATF.  When I first bought the bike is was positively spewing out.  I have the four spring 'triumph type' clutch and there was a considerable gap between the clutch centre and the sliding plate so I went to a local bearing place and they had a rubber oil seal in stock that I was able to press in.  It worked fine after this but I pulled the sliding plate off at 3am this morning (been on night shift and couldn't sleep  *eek*) and the seal has two tears in it which would not have helped and it was inserted opposite to the way I had it last time.

Am going to get a new seal tomorrow (queens birthday holiday here today) and fit it back the way it was.  The rest of the bike is completely oil tight now and running fantastic so surprisingly my situational terrets syndrome has not kicked in and I have been happy to pull the clutch out yet again knowing that it is my last oil leak bane.

Cheers,
Dave.

HI Dave,
Is the spacer disc +2 gaskets fitted between the crank and primary case? there should only be room for about one or two washers between the bottom rear frame mount and case. DO NOT put any strain on the inner case when fitting the washers / spacer
????????????????????????
This is the common reason for the scroll not meeting the sliding plate

Hi John,
The inner primary is properly secured to the crank case and the frame, no problems there.  The problem is the scroll on the back of the clutch centre and the sliding plate opening is enormous, allowing oil to go where it will.  See attached, along with an oil seal I had fitted which before my rebuild worked fine, I re installed it the wrong way round and it is also damaged.  Should have a new on by today....
