I have just taken deliver of a set of engine cases (1953) the engine number is BA10 2723. But under that is ERS 1709, can anyone shed some light on this.
I did a search but could not find any related links.

That stands for
Engine Replacement Service
, at some time a repair dealer has ordered a replacement motor direct from BSA
