Surflex Clutch Plates
« on: 28.06. 2011 22:38 »
I see on Ebay "Surflex" Clutch Plates for sale. Are these any good ? compared with the Cork type.

Hi Howard,
"Surflex" clutch plates are probably the best around with a price to match  *eek*
Proper ones have the brand name on each plate
They are a different "animal" to cork plates requiring more spring pressure and the plain plates must be perfectly flat

Surflex are without doubt the best money can buy. I will only use Surflex in my bikes, there not cheap but if you want quality you have to pay for it.

Thanks Guys, Brian you say the price is expensive however I have been quoted £8.95 per plate (Surflex) as opposed to £11 per plate to recork my own ones. Another thing, the chap who would recork mine said that if I go the surflex way they don`t like oil, so run them dry, is that correct ? I`m still not sure which way to go, any more suggestions.

Hi Howard,
Its not really feasable to run the BSA primary "dry", lots of discussion on the topic on this forum
As I said the plain plates must be perfectly flat, I would also fit new springs
The Surflex will be fine provided that you do NOT use ""car oil"" in the primary case  *eek*
Most people here use automatic transmission flluid (ATF)
I use 10/40 Castrol Motorcycle oil

Surflex plates will run with or without oil. I have some bikes with oil, s/arm A10, B33 etc and some that run dry, plunger A10's.  I also use Castrol 10/40 motorcycle oil, over here its called 4T.
