1963 RGS rear mudguard
« on: 18.07. 2011 08:46 »
Has anyone a photo of the brackets/spacers/etc setup for the 1963 RGS rear mudguard (arrowhead type stays)? I am lost as to how the whole set up looks!

Thanks Muskrat...

I have the same parts manual but it does not show the position of the various RGS mudguard brackets and their fixing points, spacers etc.

A photo or details of a completed RGS rear end would help more so than the parts book.... thanks again.

Magic,
The arrow head stays bolt to the frame and the top shock bolt with the cotton reel spacers. Also, the top guard bracket fits between the pair of arrow head stays.
The rear of the arrow head stays bolt to the rear bracket.
There is also a bottom bracket which bolts to the bracket on the frame above the centre stand.
The guard bolts to these brackets.
There are stiffening brackets listed which I don't have but I imagine that they are curved flat straps which go inside the guard at the top and bottom brackets.
The top and bottom brackets are on the outside of the guard and the rear on the inside.
Clear as mud?

  Trev.

Hi, sorry not to have contributed earlier.  These are some shots of my recently restored RGS, which was original before I took it apart in 1995(!).  I still have the original guards, the rear having a couple of rust holes.  In the photos you can see the pair of braces between the bracket that supports the seat and the bracket that goes between the 2 arrow head pieces.  Also, at its bottom at the front, the mudguard bolts on to an L shaped piece that links it to the frame.  This isn't the same as used on the Goldie, where at least the parts book shows the rubber block in use.

Hope that helps,

Jon

Interested to know where those under the mudguard straps could be located.  And a source for chrome RGS F&R fenders as well.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi there,
Rear brackets are available via http://www.vintage-motorcycle.com and Fleebay.
Front bracket sets are on Fleebay.
Front and rear RGS guards are available from Burtons Bike Bits UK.

JJBSA,

By chance, would you have any other shots of your seat bracket and stays with the seat off?  I'm curious what the real seat bracket should look like and mounting details.  Also, does your RGS use the two front, frame mounted, rubber buffers?

Many thanks,

Bob
