Custom built beltdrive question
« on: 08.08. 2011 21:57 »
Hi everyone,

I am new to the board. I am renovating and tuning a 58 Golden Flash. I am contemplating building my own beltdrive with a suzuki clutch set up. Reason for this are that it seems like a neat challenge and I can run a 2" open belt... I have access to a machine shop. So, I have very simple question. As a reference I am using the Newby beltdrive set up and I need to know the number of teeth on engine pulley and clutch basket. Preferably also the pitch of the teeth.

Thanks!

Fast,

Welcome to the forum. As I am sure you've seen, you are amoungst some folks who could care less for going fast and some, I suppose, like yourself, are real hot rodders. That's what makes it interesting. I'm probabaly more the former, but do like to scoot it when the road is open ahead. To your question, your chainwheel ("clutch basket") would most likely have had 42 teeth. Engine cush sprokets are available anywhere from 16T to 24T (maybe even more options than I know about). It seems most folks use 22T or 23T for reasonable cruising. Of course, also depends on gearbox inards and drive and rear-wheel sprockets.

Looking forward to some pictures of your bike.

Chaterlea is the man here to talk to about belt drives , do a search and you'll see previous posts about this subject.

My Super Rocket has a belt drive based around a Suzuki PE400 clutch.
The tooth ratio is 35 / 68
