Tank Emblem

My 1958 Golden Flash came to me with these emblems, i haven't seen any other Flashes with this emblem...any idea if this is correct?

Hi Motomike,

I'm pretty sure that the tank badges you have shown are from a BSA Bantam.

It's common practise to fit the regular bright red badges to your model.  Unfortunately, the original ones for 1958 and 1959 are not being reproduced and very hard to find.

I'll try to photograph an original one a bit later to show you what they are like.

As promised here is a picture of the original tank badge as fitted to the 1958 and 59 A10 and B31 models.  I'm not sure if they were also fitted to the A7 and B33's of those years.  Maybe somebody on the forum could advise on this.

It is dark amber with a black centre and silver motif.

You will not be able to find new ones of the correct colour.
You can only get them in red & gold so if you want original you will have to strip the old paint off and repaint them.
The originals are Lucite and the gold or silver was just that, vacuum deposited but you can do an acceptable job with a fine brush and hobby paints.
There were a lot of variations to the colour combinations.
Do not rely on sales catalogues as they all use the same badge which may not be the one that BSA used.
Typically BSA fitted different coloured badges to different models only on the first or second year that a particular badge was used then reverted to the same for every thing. Oft these were coloured to match the bikes tank so the shooting star badge was green, the A7 badge was either blue or red and the A10 was golden unless you bought the optional black when you got the black badge.

The badge you posted was used on both Bantams and some C 25 / B 40 models.

The star badge was also used on some American model A10s with the 2 gallon tank in 1962-3.

I have an original '58 B31 and a friend has an original '58 A10GF.  Both of these bikes have the amber, black and silver tank badges that were fitted when the bikes were new.
