seats again
« on: 29.10. 2011 00:05 »
hey gang
ok so read though a few old threads and didn't quite make out what the final answer was - so i ask this even though it probably has been covered somewhere in the past

i have the typical big square seat on my 61 A10 - i got a new seat from leighton (nice) - its the slimmer seat designated as an early A10 which appears to require different mounting hardware (front piece and rear parts)?  any one know of this is correct and what parts i need or where to obtain them as local shop here in calif was unsure of what i was talking about

thx!
 Mike

Ha, neither can we.
Sorry Mike, just had to. *smile*
Looking at my books it's the same front bracket 42-9058 from '54 to '61, up to '59 there's a rubber pad 42-9057. Rear bracket '54 to '59 is 42-9196.

Hi Mike,
Not sure if this answers any part of your question but I read the thread after just fitting a different seat on the Super Rocket.I usd to have a 59 and 60 flash and the earlier one had a one piece  mounting bracket that bolted on top of the mudguard ,the latter had two L shaped brackets ,one on each side of the guard.I liked the earlier seat shape which was very slightly shorter but narrower at the back.
I had a real result from a friend last week who had a seat that turned out to be the later type.My old one was distorted at the back whare previous owner had grabbed seat to lift onto centre stand. My misses said it didn't feel safe. The new one is the later type and in pretty good nick (doesn't look as nice as the old but is comfy)Had to get new mountings made but is finally in place.Good luck with it all. Mark.

thx guys -
yes mark that is exactly why i want the earlier seat - bit nicer looking, any woman who'd get on the bike will be serious boozed up and have way more serious concerns than rear end comfort (well maybe not....)
