Tank Badges
« on: 31.10. 2011 22:24 »
G'day Everyone,
Noticed these badges on ebay, seem to be NOS, just wondering, are the new repo red & gold
piled arms badges correct or are these correct for the Super Rockets, I don't think I've
seen this colour badges before. "Maybe they are just really faded"

Also Domi-racer sent me their new sale brochure, with a great BSA poster on the back, the '62 Super Rocket seems to have the late 50's style forks without the gaiters, is that correct
for '62? also no tacho, but I think that was an option, also has a model called 63 A10 Gold Star Twin above the RGS, was there such a bike?

regards, Cus

Gold star, gold wreath. pink center
Gold star, gold wreath. yellow center
Gold star, gold wreath. black center
Gold star, gold wreath. dark blue center
Gold star, gold wreath. light blue center
Gold star, gold wreath. red center

Gold star, silver wreath. pink center
Gold star, silver wreath. yellow center
Gold star, silver wreath. dark blue center
Gold star, silver wreath. red center
Gold star, silver wreath. black center

Red star, gold wreath. black center
Red star, gold wreath. yellow center
Red star, gold wreath. blue center
Red star, gold wreath. pink center

I think that is all of the colour combinations that I have come across.
Some appear to have only been used for 1 season on 1 model, usually an export one
As far as I can make out BSA only supplied 4 combinations as spare parts so if you had one of the unusual badges and it got lost-stolen or broken tough luck.
The same thing seems to have happened with the latter pear shaped badge.
Ditto for the 4" star.

Hi Cus
Those badges are a standard colour not faded red ones.  I believe that they were only used for one year, 1958 I think.  They may have just been for export bikes.  There is a pictures of a bike with them in the Bacon book on page 184.  If you notice on a B&W photograph the centre of these badges is dark with a light surround whilst the more normal 'red' badges are light in the centre with a dark surround

Cheers
Frank

Hiya,
I believe that the Rocket Gold Star was sometimes called the Gold Star Twin
when it was exported to the American market.

That question was definitely worth asking, I had no idea there were so many variations,
I think they would of been a good pick-up Mike, I don't think you'll see new ones of those
around for a while!
As for the Gold Star Twin, the poster also has the RGS on it, the Gold Star Twin looks
more like a Super Rocket than the bike they list as a S/R, has chrome valanced guards,
twin guages, alloy head, fork gaiters etc.

Cus,
The Gold Star Twin was for the U.S. market.

Hi All. I always thought that this colour badge was fitted if the bike was finished in the optional colour of 'Princess Grey' which was available on the A & B series for 1058/9. I have never seen many bikes in this colour so assume that it was not a commom option. Anyone know more? Regards, Peter
