Odd Gearbox ??

Been sorting through a mound of gearboxes Ive has 30 years , found a RR2T & this oddity ..marked up XX ? Anyone know what this is please ?

LOL ! Didnt forget photo .. just that its lying in a million pieces amongst 3 / 4 other Swinging arm gearboxes & its just the strange markings Im interested in ....have to get round to assembling them all to see what goes where ?

                I have seen plunger/rigid boxes with "XX" stamped on top of the inner cover.
