Spur ?

Can anyone please identify this SPUR on my frame?  ????
what is it for? should it even be there?

any pictures would be appreciated...

Thats where the pump originaly went, there will be another one just above the swingarm pivot.

My Flash was second hand but from a very meticulous gentleman and came without a pump, was it supplied with the bike or an extra I wonder

  Its a little one isnt it....  NOPE... even with my glasses on I'm finding that 2 small to see..  
BUT I get the idea...    wink2  it's like a pushy hand pump..?

Yup, pretty much I guess like a bicycle one- remember how treadlies had tabs on the downtube under the seat for same?? Or maybe it was the one down from the steering head??
 Anyway, some BSA models(and maybe others-don't care) have the tabs under the tank

Oh yeah just remembered, some have them on the chainguard, almost like the factory was playing 'hide the pump' ...?

Yeah, these pumps were just the same as those used on bicycles only slightly longer.

Regarding the different positions of these pumps....I have a M33 outfit and the pump should be fitted along the fuel tank outboard of the fuel tap so with the pump in position it is almost impossible to switch the fuel on.  As there is only one fuel tap on this model why couldn't BSA have positioned the pump on the opposite side?  Great designs eh??

I do carry one of these hand pumps, never had to use it and often wondered if it'll manage to pump up to around 30 - 35 pounds per inch?

You don't need the tyre that hard to get home or to a garage airline as long as you avoid hard acceleration etc.

Just a bit more on the subject, the lower pump mount on the CA7, EA7 & FA7 frames is formed in the swing arm frame gusset.
The GA7 is the same but has an extension welded on.
This is to clear the brake light switch used on this frame.
The late pump is shorter than the first ones.
The RGS frame has no pump mounts! Well, the bottom one is there with no extension but the top one was never fitted.

I found a old high volume pushy pump from my Le Tour De Local Shops days & had a BRAIN WAVE.. 
I pulled it apart... cut 2" off the end & inner rod...





a nice gold piled arms transfer & PRESTO.. one BSA bike pump.
