Screw sizes and form please ?

Wonder if a Member knows the screw type & size for the "Golden Flash" (pressed metal wing type) fuel tank badge , the kneegrips for same & the small screws holding the dipswitch , etc to the back of clutch / brake levers please ..theis is for My 1956 Swinging Arm "Golden Flash" ...trying to find the above in Stainless steel ?

Hi Stephen,

Sorry I can't help on the dipswitch screws but the information I have for the others is as follows.

Fuel tank badge screws      part number 65-8317    5BA X 1/4inch long.

Kneegrip screws                part number  02-79       1/4 x 26tpi cycle thread x 1/2 inch long.

For the kneegrip screws 1/4 cycle thread and 1/4 BSF are interchangeable.

Although I believe the above information to be correct I would suggest that you checked the threads in your tank with second hand screws before ordering new ones in stainless steel.

Most of the small screws associated with the electrical system are BA threads. I've just had a look on mine and it measures 3.00 mm across the thread diameter which is half way between 5 and 6BA !, it will be one of the two, not sure which. Dave Middleton www.stainlessmiddleton.co.uk has the best slection I am aware of, Lightning Spares also well worth a call.

  I have a '46/7 Longstroke tank on my ~'52 Plunger A10, and have the badges for the tank, and also the proper G/F badges (only accommodated by front(?) screw-hole in the '46/7 tank).

 I'm not so fussed about having badges, but would like to have screws in to keep crap out.
 Contrary to Beezageezauk and Various Suppliers, curiousity makes me look at Draganfly list:- 65-8317 as 6BA and not 5BA , I even emailed them to check, and they confirmed) , so now I'm confused.

 
 
 The information I dug up is;-
(65-8317 is listed in Parts books for A7/10 Plunger & 'A' group)   (* D/F List as  65-8317  7/64  6 BA  1/4  C/S*)
(Plunger Star Twin uses;-
 65-8201    S/T (& SS?)/ Plate10/#8 ’49-’53 & Plate 22/#12 ’54-’57)  D/F List as  4BA (as do stainlessbits below)

The Flash badge screw is definitely 5 BA. I will have to check the long stroke tank.

  I suspected it be the same as for the ST. being basically same tank.
 I can get a 2.5mm drill shank in loose-snug, so used to clean the hole out, but a 7/64" won't go. 

 ( I included as much info as I found in case someone else needs the S.T. info; dunno 'bout S/S. though, that is on Draganfly, P-list just says " 'A' Group" )

 What I meant there was; " I suspected it be the same as for the S/T, but it obviously is not (being much smaller than 4BA) ", and 5BA or 6BA seems more likely, with 6BA showing signs of nice fit

I checked a plunger A7 tank, it had the brass winged badges, and the thread is either 5BA or 1/8"BSW.  Both screw in but who knows what is original? I lean towards 5BA.

 Thanks Trev, I've just stopped for a coldie after I took a punt and bought some 5BA at BJ's for a buck each  (as far as I'm aware, the only Classic type walk in shop North of the border), only went in a couple of threads by finger(no tools) I'll see how they go.
  I think I tried some 1/8"ww or similar a while ago but can't remember the outcome, I'll see how the 5BA go soon.
 Classic Fasteners have some BA listed at a better price, but I got impatient .

 I don't have taps that size Trev. The 5BA screws didn't go in easily, I stopped after a couple of threads. I tried some 1/8" WW, and same deal- no-go.

 But a funny thang; at the same time, I had to replace my R/H switch-block/Brake lever bracket thingy ('71/2 Conical), and in it is a brake switch held in with a small screw, so I tried that and it screwed straight in to the Tank badge hole.
 It measured up to 0.1095" @ 40TPI (4G), That's about ~2thou than 6BA), and 7.9 less TPI than 6BA

 Don't forget my tank is probably from a '46/7 A7 (with speedo in tank). It's no big deal, I'm just curious and don't want to mess it up with bigger screws if I don't need to.
