A7SS side stand

Found my A7SS having a lie down this morning(no damage). The side stand lug has worn enough to allow the stand to pivot to far forward and become ,it seems, unstable. The welded lug and stand is fine its just the lug. Question is where in the UK can you find this part as people like Draganfly only want to sell the complete assembly(can't blame them). Second hand would be fine but I would need to check it up close so online is a little iffy. Cannot use the main stand as the lugs for that are long gone.

Andy I had to replace mine, not too happy with the new one as it doesn't come far enough forward for my liking (obviously not as far forward as yours)
I would like one of those with the long sweeping leg on them, might be Goldie - not sure

anyway have you considered getting the old  lug built up and made to size - should not be too difficult for good welder

          The long sweeping leg you mention is probably A65.
I have seen them fitted to A10s with a little bit of resetting.
They work very well.

Andy,

Bill's last suggestion could be the easiest.  You will need to find someone with some welding gear and an angle grinder.  There will probably be a small steel fabrication company in your area.  Or maybe someone who makes garden gates.  Even your local back street garage will probably be able to help.  It's not a difficult job.

If you lived closer to me I would do the job for you.

Thanks for the replies. I will look around for a welder but they seem very thin on the ground around here. It is one of the long sweeping ones as well.

Turns out next door to me is handy with a welder and has owned  a A7 said he will sort it result

Turns out next door man has not got the proper stuff to weld cast iron. Back to square one. What size are the frame tubes as there is a selection of aftermarket ones on ebay but in different diameters 7/8,1, 1 1/4 etc.

Hi Andy,
     I bought a full side  stand V/INEXPENSIVE and definately good quality, for my 1954 A10 from Eric Willert 07895776387 (uk),eka19@hotmail.co.uk.My original 1/2 bracket was still attached to my frame ,so i had to run a round file through the holes to line it up,it is perfect. He sold one which the buyer was not happy with and he replaced it (the buyer did not return the first one,!!),

Sidestand and lug shouldn't be cast iron should be malleable iron. Both are weldable with ordinary mig wire?

If you're welding frame, don't forget to disconnect the battery.- easy to forget !! I have a late A65 one too, works well but end can interfere with the ex. pipe, so I have upswept, Also I noticed a need to relieve the lug on the topside, and find a suitable spring as the one I've had rubs viciously on the bolt head,thanks for the reminder.

I agree with Wilco.  It's not cast iron and it will weld with basic MIG welding wire or mild steel rods.

I have gone back to the main stand for now as other things needed attention(don't they always ). The split link on the drive chain broke only held together with the spring clip  . Wondered what the vibration at 60 was  . New chains on their way.
