Valve clearances A7SS a happy tale
« on: 20.03. 2012 20:31 »
I noticed a loud tapping from one(I thought) valve and a bit down on power. So being a good owner I set to work. Opening up the rockerbox and checking found ALL the valves were at zero thou cold  *eek*. I reset them to 10 inlet 12 exhaust. She now goes like a scalded cat, and what a noise from the reverse cone sends small animals and children running for cover *smile*.
Now she easily pulls 60 going up hill in top and then opening her up pulls even more  *smile* *smile*. So people check those gaps even if the valve gear taps a little more its worth it.

It's a wonder she ran at all. As soon as she started to warm the valves would never shut. Bet you tightened the rocker box bolts or the cylinder base nuts to stop a leak and didn't reset the tappets. Don't ask how I know *problem*.
