Rocker feed pipe leak
« on: 27.03. 2012 19:58 »
Hello All. I've had slight leak from the pipe where it is fixed to the oil tank, i took it apart today and found the remains of a copper washer between the nut and the banjo, there was nothing between the banjo and the tank. So i made a gasket to go between the banjo and the tank, and put a tight fitting fibre washer between the nut and banjo. I'm sure there must be a proper washer to go where i put the fibre one. I tried a washer between banjo and tank but then there was not enough thread to put the pipe back on. I ran the engine for about half an hour with no sign of a leak, should be ok, would just like to know if there is a special seal to go there. Cheers. Ian.

From memory, I think there should be a fibre washer on each side of the banjo, then the nut which has a special flattened surface clamps the whole lot together. The return pipe from the engine which has a ground tapered union clamps abainst the end of the tube with the captive hollow nut, like a petrol pipe fitting. If what you have done works, I'd leave it - there isn't much pressure in the return side anyway.

Hi ian got the same problem with mine . Ive stoped all the oil leaks apart from the where the banjo fits to the oil tank, just the odd drip now an again . Ive come to think that these bikes are meant to leak oil. So think im just gonna leave things alone.
cheers Neil

You could re use the copper washer after you have softened it up again. (heat it up cherry red and let it cool). Also check the oil tank seam while your in that area... I have had two oil tanks that have leaked along this seam near to the securing point to the frame. The fastener is sometimes tightened up too much causing the welded seam to fracture.

I had a banjo leaking at the oil tank end. Found that the bolt was bottoming out before pulling up fully. An extra washer was enough to deal with it.
