In my parts I have two swing arm toolboxes that both have two mounting holes drilled in the lid.
What would have been screwed onto these holes? A goldenflash badge perhaps?

A good rider periodically checks all nuts and bolts with a spanner to see that they are tight - Instruction Manual for BSA B series, p46, para 2.
