Oil In Sump
« on: 11.06. 2012 18:14 »
I left my `51 A7 for a few weeks, so before starting I drained the sump. It had approx 100mls in it. I took it out for a good run and as soon as I stopped at home I redrained the sump to check just how much was in it, so I could compare the two.Out come 100mls again, so its not wet sumping as I thought but is that a normal amount to have in the sump ??

Sounds about right. Remember that when you stop the engine there will be hot oil round the rockers, camshaft etc etc and much of that will drain down into the sump after it has stood for a minute or so.

Lucky bugga Howard, after a couple of weeks my '51 has filled the crank case and 1/2 the primary. My other two are as yours with about 1/2 to 3/4 cup.
Cheers
