Hi all,

Thought I would introduce myself with a few pics of my newest project and how it looks so far.

A10 Super Rocket Bought as a Spit Scrambler rep but was so badly built it fell apart and buggered up within minutes of getting it home. So!  I decided to do it properly!  New forks fitted, new tank and sides made in Ally, new Ally mudguards made, new rear light bought and modified to fit my style, front light made and adapted to fit with stone guard, rear shocks sourced and extended to suit. etc as you can see.
Engine wise it is being rebuilt as follows.
Already has the roller outer bearing conversion and I fitted the SRM ally clutch, SRM ally rods, hi press oil pump etc. I managed to find and buy a twin carb head, heard that people get no more power out of them but will see!  On my modern flow bench this head which was basically un touched out flowed my old Super Rocket big valve head by almost 17% so will see what happens when I've finished. I really think it looks the part with the twin carbs and that's part of the deal anyway isn't it?  ;)  the carbs are Amal Concentrics with long trumpets bent inside the rear panels and air filters fitted.  Oil tank made to fit between the filters, the rear mudguard internal area is completely enclosed to stop mud on the filters etc. The thick flanged barrel had been fitted with too thick paper gaskets and also bored and sleeved to 72mm and HC pistons fitted.... You can imagine the result!  A broken base flange!!  So I am in the process of machining a new Ally barrel from solid, in 6061-T6 with liners and 76mm bores and much stronger design to suit the large "760cc"  bore! Special 10.5:1 pistons etc.  It will run a Megacycle cam and I have a set of 54t to 60t - 7075-T6 Ally rear sprockets, these will be going on to a specially made ally rear wheel carrier.   The exhaust will be a two into one with equal length primaries going into a tapered pipe, and this will bend over the primary drive and out to a reverse cone under the roundel like in the bottom pic.  Lots of fun to be had!   Just stripped it all down for paint and some strengthening on the frame etc.  Will keep it updated.

Nice Forum,
Hope to learn a lot.

Best regards,
Julian

Looks terrific!
As a matter of personal taste (since you've not yet done it) would the line of the exhaust maybe work better if it followed the line of the top of the primary chaincase, and if it pointed upwards at the end? it seems to point slightly downwards.
But it really does look fantrastic, a serious piece of kit.
Cheers,
Iain

Thanks Ian,
The exhaust "should" be parallel to the ground and the bottom of the frame tube when finished and the outlet also parallel in order to keep everything looking coherent. (in my mind)    I did try drawing it in line with the primary cover and sweeping over the top but it seemed to look too "OCC"
What do you think though, Black or Chrome?

Thanks for your input much appreciated!

Hi Julian,
Here's one I prepared earlier  *smile*. To show what I'm suggesting.
The exhaust fitted is an Armours one. There was a kink in it which looked like it should follow the line of the chaincase, though it too ok a bit of work to get it to actually do that.
The rear mudguard stays should follow the line of the exhaust too, but I refitted the mudguard whilst the exhausts were off the bike, and never got round to correcting that it doesnt line up.
As I said, down to personal taste, and your bike is evidence of excellent taste.
Cheers,
Iain

Thanks Ian,
Now I see what you mean!

Well, although I like your exhaust (and your bike  *smile*)
If I do the same, then it will cover my roundels and I don't want to do that.
I want to make the bike a fully-fledged crosser/enduro so although the odd compromise are inevitable, I would prefer to keep the roundels un-obstructed. Although I know others that don't.

Like you say taste is personal but am trying to be careful to keep it all coherent!

Do like your bike though! good colours too.

Best regards,
Julian

Hi Muskrat,

Thanks for the thumbs up!

Chain will be on a big 60t sprocket when finished with a nice motocross style tensioner to sort things out,  pic is just the mock build.

Barrel is being machined from billet.   That stuff on ebay is about as rough as you could ever manage to make anything in my opinion!  absolute tat!    We have a lot of engine castings made for my car restoration company and if someone gave me these,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bsa-a10-alloy-barrells-nickasil-bores-/150832955593?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item231e5840c9
I would instantly stop working with them. Permanently!

This is what a casting should look like as a minimum!

From Steve Manney,

Or this from my parts stock.

I hope I don't sound like a whiner but these quality things annoy the hell out of me!

Best regards to "Australia"?

Hi Ian,
You are very welcome!!
Looks very good in fact!

However  *smile*    I want to keep to the two into one as I "think" the power will be better.
your idea was actually one of my first ideas and scribbles, and also one of my favorites.
Actually I think if anything it makes the bike "too pretty"  ;)

But photoshop away by all means!

Yep,

Hope I can keep the weight down a bit Dutch!
Hope,
Hope
hope!

Julian  *smile*

I doubt I will make more than one set of barrels but you never know!
Can't imagine they will be marketable though unless cast and I haven't the time for that at the mo.
Too much work and too many other toys to build also.

Little update,

As from Yesterday the new ally Cylinder block is now in progress, Drawings first and then machining but it "is" going ahead "proper good like" now!  Looks like 74mm bores as the 75 or 6  initially hoped for would need the head modding too much and I want to avoid that.

As from Wednesday a 90mm stroke crank is in the process.  This will be 70% balance factor (my educated "or uneducated if it doesn't work" guess) Very different in design to standard, but still using my standard length SRM Alloy rods, but much lighter pistons with a 3mm lower pin to deck height and flat top.  No gasket as it will use "Wills" rings

74 x 90 bore and stroke
774cc   360 degree twin.
10.5:1 CR
Twin 32mm Amals
RGS Valves etc.
Not 100% sure on cam spec yet but like the Megacycle profiles offered.

Also just picked up a TLS front brake from an A65 so will fit that as I will need to stop.

I want to start a complete bike "Build thread"
Is there a section for that?  or where would the best place be for it?

Regards,
Julian
