melting HT lead

out today on my super rocket spec A10 and i had a misfire eventualy cutting out on one cylinder,when i got home i realised the HT leads had melted through! i run my leads in between the inlet manifold and this is where they had melted has anyone else had this? the engine was running fine so i'm not sure if it was overheating or crap Ht leads,maybe i should re rout the leads?,,,,,,,,,,,,baz

I try to keep mine as far from hot bits as possible - easy with the one off the back of the mag but harder with the other....

ISTR original photos of A10s with the leads as you describe (does look tidy) but I wouldn't route them like that.

i have always routed them like that in the past but now i have routed them away from the head and covered them in heat shrink ,,,,,,,,baz

I hope you mean spagetti tube and not heat shrink.
The first is the woven tube like you see over the wires inside the maggy it is thermally insulating.
Heat shrink is not and will melt just like the original wire did.

dam i thought that heat shrink was more heat resisting than the HT as i normaly shrink it with a flame from a gas lighter,as i have now routed the leads away from the head it should be ok now ive done about 50 miles since and its running fine cheers baz

Asbestos sleeving is the go.
