Seat conversion, what does it take ?

Hi again,
I'm considering to change my dual-set to a single sadle, it is on a 53 Golden Flash (plunger).

Dealers , like BAS motor  in Sweden, are supplying sadles in various sizes with chromed springs, so I guess that part is alright, but do I need any other brackets , fasteners etc .

What was the original size of the sadle ? There seem to be a "large" and "small" versions, I guess the large one will fit my backside, but will it fit and look right on the bike ?


Anyone that knows ?

Hi, on a plunger it should be no problem, agree it looks good, and with the (weak) brakes, with 2 persons on it's not the safest anyway! Your frame surely has the lugs above the horn \ tool box to fit the springs, and the front should fit the same as the dual seat, finding some spacers or bolts as needed should not be a problem. I suggest the largest, comfort and support is important. I padded with extra foam, helped a lot.

Good comment you made on the brakes, as you perhaps remember, I also have a sidecar attached, so 3 persons with additional 100 kg for a sidecar is quite interesting in terms of retardation 

By the way, you mentioned once that you had a couple of new silencers for a plunger laying around, is that still the case ?

Hello, I have one silencer as spare, which I want to keep. But if you should have big trouble finding anything I could help you out. BAS should have them. Good luck with the seat job. btw, I am very happy with the dealings I have had with BAS in the past.

I also use BAS motor as my main source, and I am also very happy with them.
I will go there tonight to pick up the sadle, they are only 10 km away from home , so I'm lucky.

You will need:  Seat (Large Lycett type or similar), a set of springs (I found 6" seat springs from JP cycles in the US), some long 5/16" BSF bolts, nuts and washers, and some 1/8" steel to make spring brackets and front attachment bracket out of.
