Excess gasket material

I seem to have a lot of excess gasket material above the joint lines on the timingside casing which looks a bit naff, is it ok to trim it back flush with the joints?

I typically take a razor blade and trim back that excees, but you need to be sure that it's not there because it's slipped from the joint.

I do the same. Modern gaskets do seem to squeeze out of the joint but do also seem effective at keeping the oil in.

Its a uniform ammount of material all the way round - seems they are made a bit oversize. I will give it a good run up first to see if there are any leaks. Only just finished puuting it back together and it has not been out on the road yet, no leaks on initial start up.
