Gear box selector seize
« on: 16.09. 2012 23:02 »
G'day Everyone,
Had a great w/end on the Aust. Nat. Rally last weekend, bike ran like a top.
Went for a quick spin on Friday night, getting just near home, clicked up to
3rd, went for 2nd... rock hard lever, so peeled off the side, was completely seized.
Got home, took off the outer cover, the selector rod had come adrift & ended up
coming right thru & against the selector rocker. The little grub screw that holds the rod in
had backed off, not fallen out. As most would know, the grub screw is difficult to get to
without removing the outer & inner primary. I brought a flexible screwdriver, put 222
locktight on the screw & managed to get it back into place, then cleaned all the surface
& put a dob of silicon to hold everything in place. Back on the road, & all is good,
you never know what's round the corner!

regards, Cus

 G'day Cus,
lucky the shaft didn't fall out of its hole and cause major headache.
Went for a 600 mile ride on weekend with a mate on a '62 BVSR he bought new. Never missed a beat.
Cheers

600 miles, HS, that's a good ride.
The shaft came out of the hole in the primary side alright,
couldn't go any further to the right, got stuck on the selector rocker,
