Hi All,
In my introduction post I mentioned I had some V-coil tread inserts ready to repair some ripped out treads of the timing side cover bolts.
In the mean time I got round inserting them, and I must say they are perfect for this kind of job.
The kit comes with a drill, a tap, an insert tool, a tool to break the insert lip, and 20 inserts 1/4" BSW by 1 1/2 times diameter
Just make sure, when drilling and tapping, you're absolutely square to the engine casing, because of the length of the bolts.
I had one hole that was not 100% square, and I couldn't get the bolt in. I had to drill it out carefully, re-tapped the tread, and fitted a new insert with a drop of Loctite, and got away with it, but wouldn't have counted on my luck a second time.
