Collar?
« on: 05.10. 2012 14:07 »
I've just stripped and rebuilt my plunger gearbox on the bench. Gear selections all work ok. I've found a coller on the bench. If it's from the gearbox I cannot see where it would go. The coller dimensions are: internal diameter is 1". The OD is 1 5/16". The width is 3/8". There is a groove machined around the outside edge. HELP!

G'day Neil, can't see anything in there that matches that description. First thought was layshaft thrust washer, but too thick.
It sounds more like the crankshaft distance piece for a s/a model, the groove would be where the oil seal runs. Plungers don't have them.
You haven't had a smartass friend in the workshop lately have you. A favourite is to throw a washer or something in their parts tray.

Hiya Neil, I think there's one similar to that description on the kick start quadrant, goes on shaft inside the spring?

 Maybe?  cheers

Ta Bill, but'm not sure 'bout "groove machined around the outside edge.'...?
Maybe just from spring contact or a trick mod. ?

You beauty Dutch! It goes behind the KS quadrant. Oh happy day! Thank you.

I've been stripping and rebuilding that gearbox so much lately that I'm now able to do it with my eyes closed. Yeh, I know; my eyes must have been closed when that collar fell out!

No worries Neil, maybe you need to have your eyeballs checked ? They also come in pairs  *smile*
Hey just for the record, I've still been having grief with my brake pedal/pipes, but think I got it ~sorted today, but that's a different story.

 Cheers

I'm not at the stage of making brake pedals and exhausts fit yet. Keeping fingers crossed that everything fits ok.
