Rebuild
« on: 11.10. 2012 05:26 »
Hi chaps,

Can someone please assist me with the torque values for the conrod nuts on the large journal A10?  Also one of the rods has a little oil hole on it and I want to make sure if it goes on the drive or timing side and does it face the inside or outside?

Cheers,
Hubie.

An easy way to remember which way the rods fit, the match numbers face the camshaft.

Thanks Trev,  I have laid them out on the bench now for re assembly.  Does anyone know of a good place to get some +40 standard (7.25:1) pistons and rings?  They seem to be hard to find......

Hello gang,

Thought I would report on my progress.  I have now fitted the new main bearing to the drive side and re attached and torqued the conrods.  Aside from cleaning up the mating faces, it is pretty much now a matter of shimming and assembly to get her back together.  I have decided to buy new pistons from JP here in Australia rather than mess with the high compression ones I have here.  I have been quoted for a pair of 7.25:1 pistons including rings, clips and gudgeons $280 delivered (have to wait for the tax man to pay me before I get those but it is only a couple of weeks away).

Should come up nicely I hope  *smile*

Cheers,
Hubie.

HAve a good look at the rings.
I use a lot of JP pistons without any problems except for poor and some times even wrong rings.
This is no great problem for me as Now I use Total seals in just about every thing

Just a quick progress report:

Have been cleaning down all the mating faces today and they've come up a treat.  The crank is re assembled and ready to go in and I have measured and set up the end float, winding up with a figure of 0.0015".  I think I am ready to assemble the bottom end  *smile*

Hello again chaps,

The bottom end is together and in the frame, barrels are at the re borer's with pistons at 7.25:1 made to match.  When the barrels are ready, she'll be going back together.  Hopefully about a week or two and I'll be back in Beezer land!

Cheers,
Hubie.

IT LIVES!!!!

Picked up my barrels on Saturday morning (yesterday) spend 6 hours in the shed.  Only the bottom end was in the frame and had to add the complete top end, mag, dyno, inner and outer primary etc and six hours later, ready to run.  I spent 45 minutes spinning the motor over until I saw oil return to the tank and then gave it a prime, a kick and got a backfire.  Thought to myself I may have timed it on the opposite cylinder so I swapped the leads and it started first kick, settling down into a perfect idle, no more awful bottom end noise!.

All that is left to do now is adjust the clutch and run her in!

Cheers fellas from one very happy A10 owner!!!

Just a quick update lads,

I've given her a couple of runs now after adjusting the clutch and I have to say that it is as smooth as my Kawasaki 4 cylinder!  It is a one kick starter, clutch can be engaged with the pinky, gearbox is ultra smooth and it is so effortless on the road.  I can't wait to run her in so that I can see how she goes at 60mph.  A little bit of smoke on startup which clears pretty fast and there's only about 12 miles on the new motor anyway.  Compression is great, motor is very quiet and 100% oil tight.

I'm very pleased with the result on this one.  *lol*

Cheers,
Hubie.
