Rear brake foot lever
« on: 12.10. 2012 15:15 »
My new 1954 flash brake pedal was almost touching the crank case when it was delivered. I thought these were made of moulded pig iron and would not bend. Is the pedal bent or has the frame been bashed on the tarmac. The exhaust is in line as are the footrests.
Many thanks Colin

They only bend once and you can never straighten them again......

You will not find any motorcycle parts made from pig iron, which is a base iron made from iron ore. The pedal will either be malleable iron or drop forged steel. If you heat it to cheery red you will be able to re shape it, but whatever you do let it cool naturally.
All the best Goldy

I think you mean the primary case, I can't recall if you have a S/arm or plunger, but the other day I had to heat and do a small chicane in my early plunger pedal(the one without the adjuster lug), to clear the exhaust, used Mappgaz, and it worked all right,(needed a bit of effort) but haven't had a chance to use it yet.
Wasn't sure to quench it or not though Goldy, do you reckon it'll go brittle if done?
 Cheers, duTch

deffo let it cool down on its own don`t quench makes it brittle.
only 2 things needed in life wd40 and duck tape....if it moves and shouldn`t use tape if it don`t move and should use wd40.

Malleable iron is malleable, that's how they bend and not break. Bend it to what shape you like up to a point.
