Scavenge pipe

Hi all, My A10 is apart at the moment as I had dropped part of a very thin thrust washer. How did I know, well thats thanks to the SRM sump magnet and the fact that it still wet sumps, so I was draining it as it had been stood a while.
I was being lazy and unknowledgable when I rebuilt it originally in that the scavenge pipe does not fit through the hole in the mesh properly it seems to be off line, so I enlarged the hole!!, defeats the object I suppose. Can the scavenge pipe be removed/replaced or could I try applying heat to the scavenge pipe and bending it to fit?.
Also should the end of the pipe be flush with the mesh or should it stick through it, if so, how far.
Please see my other post about the oil retaining ball. (I think that's why it still wetsumps).

My scavenge pipe was also out of line. I did try applying some force but chickened out - the motor is all of a piece and I didn't want to snap it off. I too expanded upon the hole in the mesh to get a fit. I soft soldered across the gap, though in any event I'm using a paper element filter in the return side.
Warning - observations made by this member have a 93% unreliability rating.

I had the same problem with my SRM cover but all I had to do was turn the screen over and it then fit the scavenge pipe correctly.  When I put mine in the first time I didn't get under the motor far enough to see that it was not lined up correctly even tho it was in the correct corner of the cover. Mine is a '61 A10 GF.

Hi All,
The pipe is pressed and peened into the case, its easy enough to bend /twist into the correct position cold
I use a piece of tubing that fits over the end with the ball so as not to distort the ball seating
The end of the pipe should protrude through the hole in the mesh a little, there should not be a gap between pipe and mesh

When my crankcase was heated to fit the new main the pipe fell out as the glue holding it softened I just used loctite bearing retainer grade to put it back

So maybe warm it up a bit and see if it comes loose?

It is verry inportant that your pipe is air tight or it will cause problems with the return
