Brake & Clutch Levers...

Something I have come to relise recently and that is of different lever sizes. Apparantly there are short & long reach levers available, or were available. My first A10 has levers that measure 3/4" between the clutch/brake cable nipple and the pivot screw. My second A10 has a distance of 1inch and 1/8th of an inch which is quite a big distance to pull even with largish hands such as I have. I'd like to get some more of the shorter reach that the first (red) A10 has. Doe's anyone know where I can get some from?? I have looked on ebay and asked around at a few dealers and they seem to say that only 1" and 1/16th" is available. Photos below...

Obviously for a short reach the lever is not going to be pulled in very far and the clutch will need to be fairly good in its operation. But when you think of a long reach and the bigger distance to pull in, especially if its the brake lever... then its not all that safe or comfy to use.

Interesting observation, LJ.
Mine are 1-1/8" alloy Wassells.
I suspect there would be significant clutch drag and gear engagement problems with a 3/4" pivot, per se.

Nope not at all, its a smooth as can be... maybe because that lever operates a four spring clutch while the other one operates a six spring clutch.

Hello Does anyone have some close up pictures of the  original handle bar controls  on a 1953 A10 plunger ?
I think the brake and clutch levers had the horn button and dip switch screwed on to them ?
Also  should the petrol tank for this year be black or black and chrome.

Hello again Richard, a very good sorce of info for BSA's is the book  "BSA Twin Restoration" by Roy Bacon, you can get these off ebay or thru Amazon. Also BSA spares 1954-57 "A" models, this was released by the BSA factory and is available in reproduction form on Ebay too. here is one listed  120443971833
1957 Plunger, one of the very rare collector's items ;-)

Thanks Pato thats great looking at the 54 instruction manual I can see the levers were infact the ones with screw on horn and dip swich and with out the ball ends .
Thats answered one of my questions. I will be looking for some nice original levers now plus horn button and dipswitch.
