Did the new pumps leak in the new bikes?  If I found an NOS pump would it behave for a few years before it started leaking?  Sure would beat the price of an SRM pump.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Michael ,

I will do the same work in my Bsa - Engine recondition! But i order a new one oil pump by SRM because i pay a lot of money for engine restore and the oil pump is the heart of engine. My opinion is to but a new one oil pump!!

Thanks

Housewiz, it strikes me you'd only ask " If I found an NOS pump would it.....', if you have actually located one, in which case I reckon it couldn't be any badder than one that's been used for 60 years.... *conf*

I called John Phelan 2 weeks ago and ordered one, I thought he had them in stock, but so far haven't seen a bank transaction, I'll be interested in your experience- as Neil suggests, sounds like the Mayflower is just leaving?

The answer to your question Housewiz is no. I had an A7 in the 60's which I ran for years and it never wet sumped. Charterlea is spot on and I had the very same experience with my present A10. I dismantled the original oil pump and took great care in refurbishment in particular removing the wear from the end plates and spindle housing. After re assembly the wet sump problem was still there. I then fitted a drain plug to the sump plate to drain the oil before use, but although it seems a simple thing, I found it a pain to keep doing it before each use. I then bought a new SRM pump and it has never wet sumped since, its now in its fourth year , it really is money well spent. I must admit I do not understand why people are so reluctant to purchase these pumps ( and I must say I have nothing to do with SRM) Enthusiasts seem happy to spend a fortune on roller bearing mods, clutch conversions belt drive conversions and so on, but mention a new oil pump and they don't want to know. All the expensive restoration is useless if the oil pump is inferior.

Has anyone been in touch with John Phelan, about oil pumps?
I'd call but last time I did, it was ' things will happen quicker if I don't answer the phone' - fair enough, about what I'd say....., soooo- any idea if he has pumps, or are they being made, or still digging for the metals?, or, as an antipodean (not that I'm anti-much except what's on the dunny roll list), maybe we're not so important?
I know I'm impatient, but just so I don't forget and go elsewhere,...any clues??
 Cheers duTch

Hey Julian,

So does that mean your pump is coming from the gent you mentioned or SRM?  Which is the better buy/item?  Again, reliability is the name of the game for me.

Thanks,

Steve

I've had a lot of SRM mods, on my Super Rocket motor, including the oil conversion, I have to say some was money well spent and some was definately not, I did fit the SRM oil pump and it cured all wet sumping and when I removed the oil tank cap to inspect the flow, it actually splashed me. That was money well spent.

Well the SRM ones certainly look nice in the pictures, as I'm sure is their functionality, but I'm prepared to give the opposition a go, as if we all buy the same product, the alternatives will disappear, even though they may be just as good or possibly even better...> like other things they may look exceptionally 'drop-dead-awesome'- till they open their mouths, (or suck on a fag)..>> *eek*

cheers folks
