S/A Gearbox mainshaft query ?

I have been offered the Gearbox mainshaft below .

 BSA A10 Rocket Gold Star mainshaft with 14 tooth gear, p/n 96-673313 (N.O.S) .

Would Any forum member know if by changing the gear for My existing one if this would fit a STD "Flash" G/Box please ? (S/A) .

I've never actually seen any bits from a RTT2 box but believe (from forum posts) the main shaft is different due to the use of needle roller bearings, it has I believe no scroll where the standard shaft runs on a bush..
Two  things though
1. - plenty forum members who have RGS boxes will chime in with exact info.
2. - when they do perhaps they could also tell us (allright me then)  if all RGS came with RTT2 box's or did some run standard ones and further to that could did RTT box's come with standard gearing at anytime.

You are probably correct regarding the scroll .
I am almost certain that I read once that the "R.G.S" could be especially ordered with a STD Gearbox originally as opposed to the R.R.T.2 ?

Certain Someone give the definite answer ?

Hi, there is an excellent (and very long!) article on a US forum called 'do the ton' about a Goldstar restoration that goes into lots of detail about rrt2 gearboxes, ratios, bearings etc....think it will answer all your questions! Hopefully this link will work!, if not google the site and look for 1962 DBd etc rebuild by 'Swan'.....

Interesting (and as you say long!) thread.

However, I don't like his use of a (to use his words) "massive press " to fit the gearbox bearing. Gentle heat should be all that's needed IME.

Yep, fully agree! I put the bearing in the freezer overnight (dont tell the missus!) and warm the housing with a hot air gun. The bearing only needs a gentle tap to seat it.
