Tank bracket modification
« on: 09.02. 2013 15:26 »
After fitting my newly sprayed A10 tank, I noticed how crap the front bracket under the tank was. I fabricated a new one but made it longer. I bent each end down 45% and drilled out two new holes. Sprayed it black and fitted the tax disc one side and the horn the other. Looks very tidy and neat which also shortens the horn wires. Thought I would share this as I have asked for so much help latey which has paid off on this forum.

PS There is a bike Jumble this Sunday at Boreham Village Hall near Chelmsford.

The jumble was not brilliant last time, but thats all we get in the winter. I normally get a few bits from Nookies Nuts ( staimless ) and avoid that old bloke with his curled up transfers. I parked in London Road with two wheels on the kerb. There is a new one in Basildon early March, see OBM. I seem to have problems getting pictures on the Forum. If you are that local you are welcome to pop in and see the modification, I am in Hockley.

Could be a run when it warmer and dryer. 62 miles will help the A7 run in. Did not see/notice Nookies Nuts as I was looking for stainless domed nuts for the bottom yoke, fork pinch bolts. Will look at the Basildon one in March. Are you a BSAOC member I was thinking of going to the Colchester meeting on the 11th March.

I wouldn't mount a horn from the front studs on the tank bottom.
Vibration and the weight of the horn will fracture the tank around the stud, eventually.
This I found the hard way back in '68 as the horn on my Flash had been mounted this way and it was only a light weight Clearhooters!

Hi Angus.
The Boreham Jumble was crap today. That old man is still trying to sell curled up transfers and the only nut and bolt man there was only selling METRIC, why bother attending with wrong nuts. Nookie was not there but he gets his stock from www.superiorstainless.co.uk based in Corringham. I do visit at least once a month and could forward small parts they make there stock for BSA and Trumpets on the premises, every single nut and bolt. I will be at the Basildon Jumble if you fancy a cuppa.
Regards Colin

The horn and bracket is all mounted on 3/4 rubber tap washers which are very cheap from the local DIY store but I see where you are comming from and thanks. ( I do have two spare tanks ) Did advertise them but no takers.

Again regards Colin
