Rear wheel play - QD hub
« on: 13.02. 2013 22:22 »
Hi,

Question...how much play should there be between the splines on a QD wheel hub and brake drum. On my plunger A7 with the rear brake on the wheel can move back and forward by 2 or 3 mm at the tyre diameter. The brake drum is solid and not moving at all.

With the wheel on the bench and the brake drum placed on the movement is still there - enough to move it back and forward by hand.

Is there a way to take up the play asuming there shouldnt be any?

cheers

Alan

G'day Alan, something amiss. Look at attached pic and make sure all bits are there and in the right order. I don't think play in the splines would give you that sort of play.

Hi Alan,
Check for play in the rivits that hold the splined part to the hub,
They can cause the problem your wheel is showing, I believe SRM offer a repair service for the hub???
There can also be wear in the splines themselves, a close examination of the splines will show steps on the teeth where the engagement ends
