Fork shrouds/ears
« on: 10.01. 2013 22:46 »
Would the BSA B40 WD fork shrouds and Headlamp brackets fit the A7 forks?.ie are they the right length/internal diameter. A friend may have some spare but I am not going to buy them and then find at a later date they don't fit.
thanks Andy

I think that they are shorter, Andy.

To my great supprise Trev is correct.
I tried to fit some years ago. the did not go so I popped the entire front end in.
And oddly enough the "off roader" has shorter forks.
This was good because it forced me to get the A 10 front end fixed as the bike was my daily transport and boy was it heavy.

That's a shame as I want to get rid of the cowl and go for the short shrouds and gator look. The short shrouds don't come up often. I have the ammeter/switch 'pod' for the headlight and I was going to modify(make a hole) in my own headlight shell. I have to be patient then.

I think I had a set of B40 ones on mine when I got it. There was maybe a half inch gap at the top. I never really noticed it. My mate ended up with them on his bike, he fitted a rubber grommet between the bottom of the top yoke and the top of the shroud. It looked fine.

George Prew has them. Original RGS NOS ones chromed part number 42-5317-21. Also repro unchromed part number 42-5317-UC, and in stainless steel part number 42-5317-SS. I purchased a pair of chromed ones and they are a excellent. They fit perfectly.

Quick question do the fork brackets from an A65 fit the A7 forks?

The short answer is yes they will fit. However they are different in that the A65 headlamp mounting holes are slotted whereas the A10/A7 mounting holes are just a round hole. I suppose it depends how much of a stickler you are for the original look.

The early A65 ears weren't slotted but had round holes. Same as A10.

Off topic: John, you could  put that bulb in the bottom of the speedometer! Just a thought. It would look neater too. *lol*
