I do have one of these I bought to try on my A7 but if you can't get one I would be willing to part with it.

Nearly right Dave but 67-192 is a gasket but you've given me a good pointer to look through Draganfly's list... I ran a search and got quite a long list for 'manifold' but there are no pictures and I'm not sure of the twin manifolds part number. 67-180 would be the casting number and the part number is usually one off.

That manifold is Star Twin and is the same as Jeff's.

  Did you get a manafold?  I am in the process of switching my bike back to twin carbs.  More to follow next spring.  How are you getting along with your bike?  Jeff

Yes I did get one Jeff... Fido was kind enough to let me have his... I am now looking out for the oposite side carby. I went to meet Fido last Monday not too far from where I live. Damn Magneto made things difficult so it has been taken off and sent away... Should have it back end of next week hopefully then I can concentrate on setting up the carbs when I get one.

The single carb that is on now is an Amal 276 DP/1A and is a Left hand one. So basically I need a right hander with a 15/16th of an inch bore to match. Likely i'll replace both carbs main jets and needle jets just to get them both as alike as possible. To go the 'Brand new' route would be expensive. I'm looking forward to this project and although I dont really expect much of a performance thrill... it'll certainly look good.

What is your set up?

LJ. here are a couple of photos of the carby's for my 50' Star Twin. With the exception of one jet body they are completely new old stock. It has taken me about two years to find all the bits and I hate to think how much they cost. I was fortunate to get two nos bodies so that started me off.

The 276DP/1A you have is the correct carby for a 49' A7. The Star Twin carby's are actually 7/8"

WoW thanks for posting those pictures Brian! them carbys certainly do look nice. That'll really inspire me to hurry and find the other carb that I need. I bet Jeff won't be waiting till spring to complete his!  *lol*

Now you confuse me Brian, stating that your 50s Star Twin has bores of 7/8th, that is smaller than my 15/16th I wonder why this is and if there is any noticable difference between the two?

Hey isn't this realisation fantastic? I'm sitting here in my home in the UK discussing BSA Star Twin dual carbs with a couple of chaps in Austrailia and a bloke in Canada, only a few years back this would have been nigh impossible, amazing. So... who else in the world has a Star Twin we can discuss with?

... Just to add a bit more and finish off my last post, as it got late last night and cider was not allowing me to think straight.

So far I have been enjoying the ST, its a very different ride from the two A10s and M21 I have, I think in every aspect it is as well, I had never ridden a plunger frame before and never ridden a 500cc. Groilys post sticks in my mind when he wrote of his French mates enjoying their 500cc bikes and not understanding why most guys in the UK think 650 is better than 500. I must admit that I had always thought along those lines that 650s were better than 500s, and it's a suprising realisation that I have been quite wrong in thinking this, those French guys are quite right as Groily had reported.

I reckon that after a few months of owning the bike and having done something about the awful state of the petrol tank and hand painted tinware will make me appreciate the machine much more. Of course i'll give an updated report when that time comes!

Hi LJ  Its really amzing what the internet has done for our hobby.  I have the carbs fitted to see how they look.  Now I will take them off to bead blast them and fit new washer, needles and jets.  More later ... Jeff
 
P.S.  Hey guys what style of gas taps and fuel lines are you guys using?  Pics?

 Glad I found this thread today. I thought a recently acquired Longstroke head looked a bit different, with counterbores into the inlet tracts. That picture of the twin carb carb manifold set up shows the two locating spigots and so identifies this head as Star Twin. The books reckon the parent casting (and casting number) is the same for standard and Twin Carb heads, the difference is in the final machining, as demonstrated here.
